Our Story

I grew up with the sea at my side and Dublin on my doorstep. Malahide was where we went to walk, think, and catch our breath — a place where people turned up in whatever they had, but somehow still looked quietly put together. That mix of ease and effort has always stuck with me, and it’s the heart of Byrne Malahide.

The name brings together two things I care about: our Irish family names, and the coastal town that has framed so many of my memories. I wanted a brand that felt like it could belong on the platform at Malahide station, at a family gathering, or on a night out in town, without shouting for attention. Clothes that feel familiar, but thought-through.

Byrne Malahide started because I was tired of the gap between two extremes in Irish fashion: cheap pieces that fall apart after a few wears, and labels that feel like they’re performing someone else’s idea of “style.” I wanted something in between — clothing and accessories for men and women who like to look well, but don’t need a logo to tell the room who they are.

My first designs began as small experiments: the weight of a jumper that doesn’t lose its shape after a few washes, the line of a coat that sits right on the shoulders, the feel of a belt that you actually reach for every morning. I cared about how fabric moved when you walked to the bus, how it held up to Irish rain, how it felt at the end of a long day. If something didn’t pass that test, it didn’t make it into the collection.

When you put on Byrne Malahide, I want you to feel like yourself, only a touch more sure of who that is. A good shirt, a simple dress, a watch strap that sits just right on your wrist — these things shouldn’t try to change you. They should make it easier to show up as you, whether that’s in a city office, by the harbour, or at a kitchen table that’s seen more life than most boardrooms.

This brand is built on small details: stitches that stay put, colours that feel grounded, cuts that respect how people actually move. It’s built for Irish weather and Irish ways — for layers, for sudden showers, for the kind of days that start casual and end late. If you’ve ever stood in front of your wardrobe and wished for “something that just feels right,” Byrne Malahide is my answer to that.

Thanks for taking the time to find out who’s behind the label. I hope, when you wear these pieces, they feel like they belong to your life here as much as mine.
